This is Aliados Avenue, where the current
City Hall of Porto is located, designed by the
architect Correia da Silva and which started
being built in 1920.
The downtown Porto is the name given to
the central part of the city of Porto, Portugal.
Traditionally, much of the banking, insurance,
trade and services are located in this central
area of the city. It is here that the civic centre
(around the Aliados Avenue), the big
shopping streets (as Rua Santa Catarina),
the traditional market, Bolhão, the São Bento
railway station and important monuments
such as the Torre dos Clérigos, are located.
Because of the high state of degradation of
most of the buildings and streets, the
downtown was up desertifying, but this has
been reversing.
It is also here that the Port Football Club
celebrates the championship victory
every year.
