S. Bento Train Station
In August 1915 the tiles were seated at the station, in a total of 551 m2
surface to decorate panels with the most beautiful of its kind in Portugal.
Each panel represents a scene of national history. We can see the
triumphal entry of D. João I and his second marriage with D. Filipa de
Lencastre in Porto in 1386, the conquest of Ceuta, in 1415 and the
Tournament of Arcos de Valdevez, 1140.
There are also country scenes and ethnography as exemplified by the
procession of Our Lady of Remedies in Lamego, the pilgrimage of St.
Torcato in Guimaraes, a harvest, the Cattle Fair, a Watermill, the transport
of wine on a Rabelo boat in the Douro River...
At the top of the walls we can still see a beautiful multicolor ribbon
reminiscent of the history of national roads, from the beginning to the
arrival of the first train to Braga.
The building was formally opened in 1916; it is designed in a U-shaped, with
