Mini-Grant Program
The International Initiative to End Child Labor (IIECL) honors the memory of a young child
labor activist, Emily Sandall, by awarding $500 grants in her memory to individuals, schools,
and organizations that need seed money for child labor-related prevention projects and activities.
Who Was Emily Sandall?
Emily Sandall was an exceptional young woman
who devoted herself to service.
She worked with
street children in Mexico and Nepal, led teens on
backpacking trips for Voyager Outward Bound in
Montana and on wilderness canoe trips in
Minnesota and Canada for Menogyn YMCA
Camp.
She died in a hiking accident in 2006 at
age 25.
Emily was the recipient of IIECL s first minigrant award and subsequently was awarded a second grant.
With her first grant, she used the
funds to work with street children in Mexico by giving them cameras for them to document life
