The State Legislature has called a
May19thspecialelectiontoaddress
the serious budget problem it has
created.
As you may be aware,
the State of California has been
fiscally mismanaged for almost a
decade, and this year the chickens
are coming home to roost at a time
when our economy has been in a
serious free fall.
To address the
projected $40 Billion plus budget
deficit that has been created by the
failure to make necessary budget
reductions, the Legislature and the
Governor enacted the largest state
tax increases in the history of the
united States.
Californian’s have
the distinction of being the highest
taxed individuals on the planet and
we continue to see signs that our
state government still cannot cover
the deficit it has created with its
spending appetite.
To address this mismanagement,
the Legislature needs voter
approval on its revenue grabs that
theyareproposinginthesixMay19th
ballot propositions.
The description
of each proposal and the Chamber
position and recommendations
are listed below.
The Huntington
Beach Chamber of Commerce
wishes to express its displeasure
that our elected state leadership
has brought the state to the verge
of bankruptcy by failing to control
state spending and saying no to
special interest groups when it is
time to make spending reductions.
Instead, the taxpayers and
businesses are left with footing
